Education

The Educational mission of the Institute is to prepare graduate programs in the field of Smart City and Transportation Technologies, oriented to the needs of the sector and in innovative research areas, to organize trainings for the public and private sectors, to support the theoretical and practical joint projects of city/transportation technology in undergraduate engineering disciplines.

With the Smart City and Transportation Technologies Master's Program, it is planned to provide graduate education in the field of smart city and transportation technologies, which will carry out studies in the field of application needs and innovative research areas. The relevant study will contribute to capacity building of public and private sector representatives in the field.

With the core staff to be structured at the institute, a multidisciplinary graduate program will be carried out in line with the professional disciplines of the Faculty of Engineering, Map/Geomatics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Architecture, City and Regional Planning. Faculty members from the departments of our university will contribute to courses and researches with their respective fields of expertise. Faculty members with doctorate degrees from TUBITAK related units and other research institutions will contribute to courses and research.

The multi-disciplinary structure of Smart Cities and Intelligent Transportation requires competence in the following “digital” technology areas, as well as the thematic application areas in the sections mentioned;

  • Geographic Information Technologies and Geographic Data Analytics
  • Database and Data Infrastructure Management
  • Sensors
  • Electronic Communications and Networks
  • Big Data Management
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  • Image Processing / Computer Vision

Thus, with this program of the institute, Smart cities geographic data infrastructure and analytics, Integrated transportation data model and urban traffic management, Big data management in transportation, urban mobility analysis, Smart Systems, Smart navigation, Smart and Adaptive Lighting, Sustainable Transportation Planning and Parking Lot planning, Zero In the fields of emission transportation and air quality monitoring, GNSS, Lidar and Sensor technologies for autonomous systems, Artificial Intelligence, smart city and smart transportation, solutions will be offered for the sector and national needs by combining existing competencies and research potential.

The need for application and research in Smart Cities and Smart Transportation application areas is also a reflection of the self-development demands of undergraduate graduates from different disciplines in higher education. The Smart City and Transportation Technologies Master's Program, which is requested to be established within the Gebze Technical University (GTU) Transportation Technologies Institute (UTE), will provide an important opportunity for new graduates from different disciplines and/or students working in different public and private sectors and wishing to specialize.
